For the vast number of small and medium-sized farmers, professional monitoring instruments may mean a certain investment, so mastering scientific methods for investigating wheat stripe rust is particularly important. Many farmers are concerned that the survey methods are too complex and difficult to operate on their own. Can the wheat stripe rust survey method really be easily mastered by ordinary farmers? In fact, as long as farmers master the core steps, they can achieve basic control of their illness through manual investigation.

The core of the investigation method for wheat stripe rust lies in the three key steps of "fixed-point, sampling, and recording". Firstly, select representative survey points in the wheat field, usually using diagonal or five point sampling methods, to ensure that the survey points can reflect the condition of the entire plot and avoid sampling separately at the edge of the field, at the head of the field, or in special areas where pests and diseases are concentrated. Next is sampling, selecting 5-10 wheat plants at each survey point and inspecting their leaves one by one, with a focus on the lower and middle leaves, as these areas are often the first to be infected by stripe rust. Finally, it is necessary to record in detail the number of diseased leaves, total number of leaves, and lesion area at the survey site, calculate the diseased leaf rate (diseased leaves/total number of leaves x 100%) and disease index, in order to determine the severity of the disease. During the investigation, attention should also be paid to distinguishing wheat stripe rust from other similar diseases. Its typical feature is the appearance of bright yellow, strip-shaped summer spore clusters on the leaves, which later turn into black brown winter spore clusters. Farmers can master these key points through simple training or referring to agricultural technical manuals. During the peak period of disease, they can conduct surveys every 3-5 days to timely grasp changes in field conditions and provide a basis for prevention and control decisions.
