Due to its independent network transmission function, network video servers do not require additional computers to be set up, so they can achieve simple IP networking, which cannot be achieved by traditional analog monitoring. Each network video server has an IP address within the network segment, which facilitates the control and management of the device (IP address) through network connection. That is, the video source connected to the network video server is identified, managed, and controlled through the IP address. Therefore, its networking is only a simple IP network connection, and adding a device only requires adding an IP address, greatly facilitating the network upgrade and other network requirements of the original simulation system.
IP networking is a characteristic of network video servers, but due to the scarcity of IP address resources in China, currently economical broadband (ADSL, wired broadband, etc.) in China use dynamic IP to access the internet, which requires network video servers to solve the problem of internet access. Network video servers can basically use domain name resolution to support DDNS (dynamic IP). If network video servers do not support domain name resolution, additional expensive network usage costs will be required.
Since the operation of a network video server does not require an external computer, it is necessary for the network video server to be able to independently and automatically access the internet. Otherwise, configuring one computer for dial-up on a network video server would lose the meaning of a network video server. At present, most domestic network video servers can achieve this function, such as the ADSL automatic dialing technology specially designed for domestic broadband situations in the NetVision product, which is very convenient.
Four major features of network video servers
The network video server (definition of network video server) mainly includes three modules: image acquisition, image compression, and network transmission. The image acquisition module implements a/d conversion of video signals; The image compression module compresses and encodes digital signals using a certain compression coding standard; The network transmission module implements functions such as transmitting compressed data and setting system functions.
Simplicity: By using the rapidly developing and economical computer communication network, video data can be transmitted to the monitoring center with just one inexpensive Category 5 network cable. If the video server has a WiFi module and adopts wireless LAN mode, even Category 5 network cables can be saved.
Small model size: Generally, it has 1-4 analog video inputs, unlike hard disk recorders that often have more than ten video inputs, and does not randomly carry hard disks. Placing storage devices in the monitoring center is more conducive to the storage and protection of image data, which saves a lot of space.
Easy to upgrade and comprehensive scalability: More cameras can be easily added, and the central server can be easily upgraded to faster processors, larger capacity disk drives, and higher bandwidth in the future.
Powerful central control: An industrial standard server and a set of control management application software can run the entire security monitoring system. Users only need to open the client program on a computer connected to the Internet and enter the corresponding IP address of the video server to conduct comprehensive remote monitoring. Any authorized client can directly access any camera or access the monitored images through a central server.
