Current situation and type distribution of security talents
Date: 2018-09-05Read: 6

The security industry is developing rapidly in technology, with multiple industry categories and strong penetration capabilities. The market competition is fierce, and talent resources are particularly important. At present, the security industry has entered a golden period of development, with rapid growth in industry scale and market capacity. However, compared with other industries, due to the late start and early stage of industry accumulation, there is still a significant gap in core technology, industrial structure, management level, and comprehensive benefits in the security industry. Whether it is possible to cultivate and build a high-quality talent team that meets the needs of industrial development has become the key to promoting the sustained, healthy, and rapid development of the security industry.

Especially in recent years, mature telecommunications operators and large enterprises in the network and computer technology industries have seized the powerful opportunity of market demand, expanded and extended their services and technologies, and flooded into the security industry. Their technology and management complement the shortcomings of traditional security, winning certain customer demands and obtaining some *. At this time, traditional security companies are facing many bottlenecks in their development, among which the issues of operating capital and talent are even more prominent. The key bottleneck for the current development of the security industry is still talent.

According to the statistics and analysis of the China Security and Prevention Products Industry Association, there are currently over 20000 security industry enterprises, including more than 10000 licensed (qualified) security engineering enterprises and over 2000 alarm operation enterprises; The annual growth rate has exceeded 15%, and the total output value of the industry has exceeded 250 billion in 2013; At present, there are over one million employees, of which about 60% are professional and technical personnel. There are more than 600000 professional and technical personnel engaged in security design, installation, operation, evaluation, consulting, and other related fields; The practitioners are mainly distributed in security enterprises, user units of security systems, scientific research institutions, testing institutions, certification institutions, and industry management departments; The geographical distribution of employees is roughly as follows: Guangdong (including Shenzhen) accounts for 36%; Beijing and Shanghai account for 16%; Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu account for 40%; Other provinces (mainly coastal economically developed areas) account for 8%.

1、 Enterprise management talents account for 10%

The conceptual definition of enterprise management talents can be defined as individuals who engage in business operations or management, possess certain knowledge and skills in business operations or management, are able to engage in creative labor, and play a significant role in promoting the development of the enterprise. Emphasis is placed on professional managers. In the security industry, there is already a group of professional managers, and there are a large number of professional managers in some listed companies, as well as in some foreign and large enterprises. With the development of China's security industry, this group will become increasingly large.

2、 Technical R&D talents account for 15%

Technical R&D talents mainly refer to personnel who research and develop new products and technologies for enterprises. Security is a comprehensive high-tech industry that integrates optoelectronic, audio and video transmission, communication and other technologies. Although it has some relevance or extension to technologies such as optoelectronics, audio and video transmission, networking, and communication, it is not equivalent to these technologies. Due to the fact that security is not an independent technology category and is not a mainstream technology, it has not received much attention from society in the past. There are also no specialized security technology majors or research institutions in colleges or research institutions. Therefore, the R&D talents in the security industry are mostly transferred from industries such as electronics or communication, and belong to the 'half baked' category. Therefore, there is a shortage of truly high-level R&D talents, and there are many 'half baked' R&D talents. Therefore, the overall level of the security R&D team urgently needs to be improved.

For R&D or production enterprises, the salary of R&D personnel in the enterprise should be reasonable, because their work is very important to the development of the enterprise. In short, the lack of attention given to technical talents in some enterprises is largely due to issues with the company's business philosophy.

3、 Planning and marketing talents account for 35%

Planning and marketing talents refer to high-quality talents who possess a series of management knowledge such as modern sales management, as well as skills in product marketing, planning, and operation. They can use e-commerce and network technology to conduct market research, predictive analysis, market development, business negotiations, product development, marketing planning, and other practical abilities. Relatively speaking, the security industry is a very small industry that lacks attractiveness to real planning and marketing talents. Therefore, there are very few planning experts and sales elites in the security industry who can truly be called 'planning and marketing talents'.

Due to the particularity of the security industry, marketers are required not only to possess basic marketing knowledge, but also to have a certain level of technical proficiency, otherwise they cannot even introduce basic things such as products to customers, let alone products.

According to the survey, the education and cultural level of marketing personnel in many companies in the security industry are not very high, and there are even fewer who have truly studied marketing 'professional' courses. Due to the lack of long-term and overall planning for the training and management of marketing personnel in enterprises, and the pursuit of short-term effects, the result is that sales personnel in the security industry are polarized - some are being poached and others are mixed up.

4、 Industry workers account for 40% of the workforce

The development of any industry cannot be separated from both management talents and ordinary production workers on the production line, especially skilled technical workers, because they are an important part of the industrial army and the cornerstone of the industry. But the current situation of security industry technicians is also not optimistic. The production workers on the security industry production line are mostly from electronic factories and rural areas in mainland China. With the continuous development of the industry, the production scale of enterprises is also expanding, and the production lines are constantly increasing. Many enterprises recruit a certain number of new workers every year, but most of them are newcomers introduced by fellow villagers. Some of them are workers who have some experience in assembling electronic products, spot welding and other simple operations transferred from electronic factories in other industries. Strictly speaking, they can also be considered novices.

After entering the factory, these beginners have basically no formal vocational skills training. Even if there is, it is still the traditional mode of 'master apprentice', where they can directly go to work after a short period of 'passing on, helping, and guiding'. The quality awareness of these workers is also not high, coupled with outdated technology and equipment in some enterprises, resulting in uneven quality of product batches in some enterprises.

Many CEOs of enterprises do not attach importance to the skill training of workers, but are enthusiastic about having them work overtime in pursuit of low-cost and short-term benefits.

Low labor costs have always been an advantage of China's security manufacturing industry, but a fact that cannot be ignored is that the workforce in the security industry generally has a low level of education and skills, resulting in a small number of skilled workers, and some enterprises even have a 'shortage of skilled workers'. Moreover, technical workers are also unstable, with significant fluctuations before and after the Spring Festival every year, causing companies to become 'iron clad camp soldiers with flowing water'. While many companies are concerned about sales, they also have to work hard to recruit skilled workers. The skilled workforce and skill level in the security industry need to be continuously improved, otherwise it will be difficult to adapt to the ever-changing requirements of security technology.

5、 Project management talents in security engineering (accounting for a small proportion)

With the new concept of big security driving the demand for new technologies and management talents. The concept of large-scale security is to enhance and improve the understanding of traditional security prevention. Traditional security prevention is essentially a tacit understanding of technical prevention, which cannot meet the social demand for security prevention applications. Traditional security technology prevention should be a narrow concept of prevention. Nowadays, the security technology that users need should be designed with measures and application plans to avoid (prevent) risks based on their prevention targets and risk situations. This creates a demand for risk management talents.

Security engineering integration designers should also understand how to help enterprises avoid different levels of risk events with limited funds during a certain period of time through system solution design, in order to meet the needs of customers' security risk prevention goals and tasks within a certain period of time. The construction of security engineering is not only a physical accumulation system for technological applications, but also a comprehensive prevention and control system construction issue. The comprehensive security prevention and control system constructed must ultimately emphasize efficiency. Comprehensive prevention and control is a manifestation of security in system engineering, which includes' physical prevention, technical prevention, human prevention, and security management '(i.e. physical defense, technical defense, human defense, and management) as a system engineering. In such system engineering, especially for security consulting companies, training and education, and engineering design, a large number of talents who adapt to the new demands of the security market and understand management are needed. At this point, the original security industry has also begun to cultivate talents through the concept of technical security, provide customer service, and squeeze into the security service market.
