The lifespan of waterproof cables is generally between 10 and 30 years, which is greatly affected by materials, usage environment, and maintenance conditions.
Material Type:
The design life of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cables can reach 30 years and perform stably in standard environments.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheathed cables typically have a lifespan of 20-25 years, but waterproof types such as IP68 rated structures have a lifespan of approximately 10 years (such as waterproof connectors).
Polyurethane sheathed cables have a lifespan 3-5 years longer than ordinary PVC and stronger water resistance.
YJY cable (polyethylene sheath) has a longer lifespan of 2-3 years than YJV cable (polyvinyl chloride sheath), especially in cold and waterproof scenarios.
Usage environment:
A dry and clean environment (such as an indoor power distribution room) can be maintained for 20-30 years.
Damp, corrosive, or high-temperature environments (such as coastal areas and chemical plants) may shorten to 10-15 years.
Underwater or high mechanical stress scenarios (such as deep-sea equipment) typically have a lifespan of around 10 years, depending on the armor layer and sealing design.
Load and maintenance:
The lifespan under rated load is close to the upper limit (20-30 years), but long-term overload will accelerate aging and reduce it to less than 10 years.
Regular testing (such as insulation resistance testing) can extend the service life; Neglecting maintenance will result in an actual lifespan lower than 50% of the theoretical value.
