Detailed selection guide for explosion-proof oil tank
Date: 2025-04-15Read: 14
Explosion proof oil heaters (explosion-proof electric heaters) are mainly used in flammable and explosive environments such as petroleum, chemical, coal mining, and pharmaceuticals. When selecting, it is important to consider factors such as explosion-proof rating, safety performance, applicable environment, and energy efficiency ratio. Here is a detailed purchasing guide:
1. Confirm explosion-proof level and certification
(1) Explosion proof standard
Gas explosion prevention (such as in oil and natural gas environments):
Explosion proof type (Ex d): suitable for high-risk areas (Zone 1).
Increased safety type (Ex e): suitable for low-risk areas (Zone 2).
Intrinsic safety type (Ex i): suitable for precision instruments or low-power equipment.
Dust explosion prevention (such as flour mills, pharmaceutical workshops):
Ex tD (compliant with IEC 60079-31 standard).
(2) International certification
Domestic: CNEx (China Explosion proof Certification), GB 3836 standard.
EU: ATEX certification (Directive 2014/34/EU).
International: IECEx certification (globally recognized).
North America: UL and CSA certification.
Purchase suggestion:
✅ Prioritize Ex d or Ex e (explosion-proof/increased safety type), suitable for most industrial environments.
✅ Export equipment must comply with ATEX/IECEx, and domestic use must have CNEx certification.
2. Applicable environment and material selection
(1) Environmental adaptability
Recommended environmental features
Damp/corrosive (chemical plants, offshore platforms) stainless steel casing, IP65 waterproof
Dust environment (flour mill, pharmaceutical) dust prevention design (Ex tD)
Low temperature antifreeze (LNG storage tanks, northern oil fields) high-power+temperature control system
(2) Shell material
Stainless steel (304/316): corrosion-resistant, suitable for chemical and marine environments.
Carbon steel+anti-corrosion coating: economical, suitable for general industrial environments.
Cast aluminum: lightweight, good heat dissipation, but may have a lower explosion-proof rating.
Purchase suggestion:
✅ Chemical and offshore platforms can choose 316 stainless steel, while ordinary factories can choose 304 stainless steel or anti-corrosion coating.
✅ Ex tD certified equipment must be selected for dust environments.
3. Security protection function
Explosion proof oil tanks must be equipped with multiple safety protections to prevent risks such as overheating, electrical leakage, and tipping:
Overheating protection: When the temperature exceeds the set value, it will automatically shut down.
Leakage protection (GFCI): prevents electric shock accidents.
Anti tilt switch: automatically shuts off when the device tilts.
Fuse/overcurrent protection: prevents current overload.
Purchase suggestion:
✅ It is necessary to check whether there is overheating, leakage, and tipping protection, all of which are indispensable!
✅ It is recommended to choose a dual temperature control system (mechanical+electronic temperature control) for high-risk environments (such as chemical plants).
4. Power and energy efficiency selection
(1) Power Calculation
General industrial environment: 1.5kW~3kW (suitable for 20~50 ㎡ space).
Extremely cold or large space: 3kW~5kW (with temperature control system required).
(2) Energy efficiency optimization
Variable frequency technology: Some high-end models support automatic power adjustment, saving 20% to 30% energy.
PID temperature control: precise temperature control to avoid energy waste.
Purchase suggestion:
✅ Choose the appropriate power based on the usage area and ambient temperature to avoid "small horses pulling big cars" or excessive power consumption.
✅ It is recommended to choose variable frequency or PID temperature control models for long-term operating scenarios such as pipeline heating.
