Overview of Diluents and Absorbents:
diluent:Suitable for patients with a main drug dosage of less than 0.1g, high content of extract, or high viscosity that makes it difficult to prepare.
Absorbent:Suitable for those containing a large amount of volatile oils, fatty oils, or other liquid raw materials.
(1) Starch: It is a commonly used diluent and can also be used as an absorbent and disintegrant.
(2) Dextrin: an intermediate product of starch hydrolysis, often used in combination with starch as a filler and adhesive.
(3) Sugar powder: an excellent diluent for tablets, with both taste correction and adhesive properties. Mostly used for lozenges and chewable tablets.
(4) Lactose: Non hygroscopic, with good fluidity and compressibility, especially suitable for hygroscopic drugs.
(5) Calcium sulfate: It has strong absorption capacity for oils and can reduce the hygroscopicity of drugs.
(6) Calcium hydrogen phosphate: a good absorbent for traditional Chinese medicine extracts, oils, and oil containing extracts.
(7) Others: Magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, etc. can all be used as absorbents, suitable for traditional Chinese medicine slices containing volatile oils and fatty oils. Mannitol can be used as a diluent for chewable tablets.
