Flame retardant protective clothing has a wide range of uses in daily firefighting and extinguishing work, and its flame retardant standards are gradually changing and improving. Like most countries in the world, the performance testing standards for flame retardant protective clothing in China are approaching the ISO standard, with some directly adopting them and others adopting them equally or equivalently; In terms of product standards, it is developing towards standardization and serialization. In terms of comprehensiveness and multiplicity of performance requirements, flame retardant protective clothing standards have developed towards applicability in addition to flame retardant requirements, such as clothing fabrics having requirements for strength, breathability (moisture), stiffness, shrinkage rate, color, and toxicity. In addition, depending on the different usage environments, special protective performance requirements for flame retardant protective clothing should be added. Welding clothing should have requirements for preventing the impact of molten metal droplets, firefighting clothing should have requirements for radiation resistance and waterproofing, and flame retardant protective clothing for petrochemicals and coal mines should have requirements for anti-static properties.
There are over 100 flame retardant fabric and product manufacturing enterprises in China, with an annual output of tens of millions of meters of flame retardant fabric and millions of sets of flame retardant protective clothing. The application fields include metallurgy, chemical industry, petroleum, forestry, fire protection, power, coal, construction, transportation and many other industries. In 1997, the country revised three testing methods and two product standards. With the need to standardize production, ensure product quality, and develop new products, the number and types of flame retardant standards for textiles will rapidly increase.
