Factors affecting adsorption efficiency

1. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon is mainly influenced by its specific surface area, pore size, intermolecular forces, chemical bond synthesis, and other factors; In practical applications, the key to the design of activated carbon devices is the filtration area, filtration wind speed, and layer thickness of activated carbon.

2. The air velocity for activated carbon filtration can be found in the "Technical Specification for Industrial Organic Waste Gas Treatment by Adsorption Method" (HJ2026-2013). For fixed bed adsorption, the gas flow velocity of granular adsorbent should be less than 0.6m/s, the gas flow velocity of fibrous adsorbent should be less than 0.15m/s, and the gas flow velocity of honeycomb adsorbent should be less than 1.2m/s; The filtering area can be calculated based on the processing air volume and filtering air speed.

3. The design of carbon layer thickness needs to take into account factors such as the concentration of exhaust gas generation, removal efficiency, and the duration of activated carbon replacement. There are generally two ways to calculate the thickness of the carbon layer: ① Determine the total loading amount of activated carbon based on the required replacement cycle of activated carbon, and then calculate the thickness of the carbon layer based on the filtration area; ② Taking into account the size of the adsorption box, carbon layer wind resistance, and filtration wind speed, a thickness value can be directly selected based on experience.
