a: Sewage treatment plants generally use simple ultrasonic level gauges to measure the liquid level of sewage or the liquid level difference of coarse grids. This working condition generally does not require maintenance. It is important to pay attention to whether there is condensation on the probe in summer. Condensation can easily cause ultrasonic wave loss, that is, no echo can be detected, which can cause an alarm and output fault current. The handling of this situation is relatively simple. Generally, after washing with clean water, wiping it dry, and tapping it against the wall or something to see if the measurement value changes, everything will be fine;

b: If it is used to measure the water level in tanks in power plants or other places, please note that ultrasonic waves are generally not used to measure the liquid level in oil tanks. It is necessary to consider whether there is steam. Ultrasonic waves should not be used in working conditions where the water temperature exceeds 60 degrees or 80 degrees. If the steam is thick, ultrasonic waves cannot penetrate (note that ultrasonic waves are mechanical waves, radar level gauges are electromagnetic waves, and mechanical waves will reflect sound waves when encountering different medium densities, thus detecting the liquid level)

c: Another issue is whether there is ice formation in storage tanks or containers during winter. In this case, ultrasonic waves detect the height of the ice surface rather than the water level. However, this situation is difficult to solve and is often encountered in Inner Mongolia and Northeast China;

In fact, for ultrasonic level gauges or other types of radars, the most important thing is actually installation. If there is a problem with installation, it will be basically unusable in the future. Once installed, the maintenance cost is actually very small.

The installation mainly depends on whether there are interference points within the ultrasonic irradiation range, such as whether they are too close to the vessel wall, causing sound waves to hit the tank wall or something, or whether bosses or other equipment installed in the echo cause measurement interference. If it is a fixed interference, a good ultrasonic level gauge has the echo suppression function, that is, it can record the waveform of the interference points. When there is a liquid level, the waveform is compared with the previous waveform to find out the liquid level. The most difficult is the dynamic interference points, such as thin and thick foam on the surface of the liquid level, which causes the waveform to gradually weaken without an obvious echo. In this case, it can be considered to place a board or something on the liquid level, and the effect will be much better.
