How is copper refined?

Copper ore (as long as the copper content is between 0.29% and 3%) will be excavated from open-pit or underground mines. Copper ore is transported to the ore crushing plant, crushed to a size suitable for the grinding process, and then transported to the refining plant.

The crushed ore is milled to the bar or ball shape and then comes to the flotation machine. The copper ore will float to the upper layer of the foam. This process can refine the ore to contain about 30% copper, 27% iron and 33% sulfur.

After a series of furnace refining, elements that are not copper are either evaporated or separated, and a 99% concentration copper solution is poured into the mold of the positive electrode.

Some cathode copper will be directly delivered to customers, while others will be rolled into disc-shaped copper wire.

In an electrolyte containing sulfuric acid, copper sulfate, and electroplating reagents, copper will transfer from the positive electrode to the negative electrode, resulting in a purity of 99. 9999% copper. These pure copper (also known as purple copper) will be further processed into various copper processed products.
