Classification of optical cables
Date: 2021-12-24Read: 7
Fiber optic cables are manufactured to meet optical, mechanical, or environmental performance specifications. They are communication cable components that use one or more optical fibers placed in a protective sheath as transmission media and can be used individually or in groups.
Fiber optic is a thin and flexible medium for transmitting light beams. Most optical fibers must be wrapped with several layers of protective structures before use, and the wrapped cable is called a fiber optic cable. So optical fiber is the core part of optical cable, and it is protected by some components and attached protective layers to form the optical cable.
Fiber optic cables are the new generation of transmission media. Compared with copper media, fiber optic cables have greatly improved in terms of safety, reliability, and network performance. The bandwidth of fiber optic transmission greatly exceeds that of copper cables, and it supports a maximum distance of over two kilometers. Fiber optic cables have the advantages of good electromagnetic interference resistance, strong confidentiality, fast speed, and large transmission capacity.
Fiber optic cable is composed of several parts such as cable core, reinforced steel wire, filling material, and sheath. In addition, there are components such as waterproof layer, buffer layer, and insulated metal wire as needed. The optical cable consists of three parts: reinforced core and cable core, sheath and outer protective layer.
