smart-city-siteIndustry NewsSifang Borui: How can 'small hidden dangers' lead to major disasters? The fatal combination of electrical fires and fire escape blockages
Smart CityOnline Brand Column】According to data from the National Fire and Rescue Bureau, in the first half of 2025, a total of 552000 fires were reported nationwide, with 140000 fires caused by electrical faults, accounting for 25.4%. It has become the primary cause of fires.

In the first 10 months of 2025, there were a total of 219000 fires caused by electrical faults, accounting for 30.5% of the total. Residential areas were the most prone to fires, accounting for 32.8% of the total number of fires. These numbers reveal a harsh reality: electrical hazards have become the most common "hidden fire source" around us. (Note: The above data is sourced from the National Fire and Rescue Bureau and news live broadcast room.)

Private Wiring: The Hidden 'Fire Snake' in the Home

Behind the statistical data of electrical faults are specific and dangerous daily behaviors. On the early morning of June 25, 2025, a fire broke out in a residential area of Jinniu District, Chengdu due to a short circuit caused by heavy rainfall during the "flying line charging" of an electric scooter. This fire caused one death and two injuries to a family of four. The owner of the electric scooter involved is suspected of the crime of catching fire and has been criminally detained by the public security organs. In the same year, a fire broke out in a rental house in Huzhou, Zhejiang, leaving behind wires and power strips that looked like "spider webs". After preliminary investigation, the tenant illegally connected wires and used multiple power strips in series for power supply. These are not isolated cases, they clearly point to common hazards such as illegal use of electricity, aging of power lines, and overloaded operation.

  Fire escape: a blocked 'lifeline'

However, the hidden danger lies not only in how the fire occurs, but also in how rescue efforts are hindered after the fire occurs. In February 2025, debris piled up in the corridors and balconies of residential buildings in Haidian District, Beijing and Shijiazhuang, Hebei accelerated the spread of the fire. However, residents of a residential area in Yongzhou City, Hunan Province had to work together to overturn a private car blocking the fire escape when a fire broke out, in order to barely make room for rescue. According to regulations, the clear width and height of fire exits should not be less than 4 meters. However, this "lifeline" is commonly consumed by vehicles and debris throughout the country, especially in old residential areas.

Prevention in advance: Everyone is a guardian of safety

Fire safety emphasizes daily compliance. Many seemingly independent 'small hazards' can form a deadly chain reaction: electrical faults can cause fires, while blocked passages delay firefighting and exacerbate losses.

Law is an important defense line for safeguarding security. The relevant regulations strictly prohibit behaviors such as privately pulling and randomly connecting wires; For occupying fire exits, the Fire Protection Law stipulates that individuals may receive a warning or a fine of up to 500 yuan, while units may face a fine of 5000 to 50000 yuan. The Safety Production Law also stipulates severe penalties for behaviors such as blocking exits.

True safety comes from everyone internalizing rules into habits: regulating electricity usage and never making unauthorized connections; Maintain vigilance and keep the "passage of life" unobstructed at all times; Proactively clean up debris in the hallway and eliminate hidden dangers.

Do you also have such a 'risky corner' around you? It's the one that's been tightly closed all year roundfire doorIs it the electric meter box surrounded by old furniture, or the electric car that charges every night in the hallway? Welcome to leave a comment in the comments section to share your observations. Every reminder you give may awaken a sense of vigilance and eliminate a hidden danger.
