The EDI membrane stack combines electrodialysis technology with ion exchange technology, using components such as anion and cation exchange membranes, ion exchange resins, dilute and concentrated water separation chambers to form working units. Various types of membrane stacks are assembled according to the water production volume, and water purification is achieved under the drive of an external DC electric field. Its effective desalination rate can reach 99.9%. Through actual operation, the water quality of the produced water is stable, and it can continuously produce ultrapure water up to 16-18 M Ω· cm or more.
The removal of ions from water by EDI membrane stack is carried out through the built-in ion exchange resin. Its application is as follows: (Na+represents cation, Cl - represents anion)

R-OH + Cl - → R-Cl + OH -

R-H + Na + → R-Na + H +

Due to the filling capacity of the ion exchange resin in the EDI membrane stack, the ion exchange resin will gradually saturate after a period of use, so it needs to be regenerated before it can continue to be used.
The EDI membrane stack is composed of several concentrated water chambers and fresh water chamber combination units stacked together.
Concentrated water chamber - The area between two freshwater chambers connected by anion and cation exchange membranes, used to collect concentrated water, is called a concentrated water chamber.
Freshwater chamber - an area filled with mixed resin between anion and cation exchange membranes to produce fresh water is called a fresh water chamber.
