This instrument is used to detect the presence or absence of hydrogen sulfide in liquefied petroleum gas. The lower limit for detecting hydrogen sulfide is 4mg/m3. If methyl mercaptan is present, a brief yellow stain will appear on the lead acetate test strip, but it will completely disappear in less than 5 minutes. Other sulfides in liquefied petroleum gas will not interfere with this test.
