Overview

Manganese sand

Product Details

Manganese sand filter material is made of natural manganese ore with good domestic quality, dense grain size, high mechanical strength, strong chemical activity, not easy to break, and insoluble in water. Processed into sand through processes such as washing, polishing, crushing, drying, magnetic separation, screening, and dust removal. Then mix the processed manganese sand according to a certain grading. It has an ideal gradation ratio for water treatment filter materials, which enables it to have a large specific surface area, strong pollutant interception ability, large oxidation catalytic effect, and small backwash loss rate per unit volume.
The appearance of manganese sand filter material is black brown, nearly circular, mainly composed of manganese dioxide, with a content between 35% and 45%.
Using manganese sand filter material to treat groundwater has a simple process, easy operation, low engineering cost, long-term stability, and a service period of more than 5 years. It is easy to manage and can remove harmful substances such as iron, manganese, and arsenic in water without adding any chemical agents. The water quality fully meets the national drinking water standards and is an excellent filter material for groundwater treatment.
Note: Common specifications for manganese sand filter media include 0.4-0.6mm, 0.6-1.2mm, 1-2mm, 2-4mm, 4-8mm, 8-16mm, and 16-32mm.
Special specifications can be processed separately according to user needs.
Precautions
The service life of manganese sand is generally 3-5 years for groundwater with high iron concentration, and even longer for groundwater with low iron concentration, some exceeding ten years. In some natural manganese sand filters, the manganese sand on the upper part of the filter layer gradually forms spherical "rust sand". The surface of the "rust sand" has an "active filter membrane" that still has the ability to contact and catalyze iron removal. Therefore, the formation of "rust sand" is not a sign of the failure of natural manganese sand. When the "rust sand" grows and causes the particle size of the filter material to be too coarse, affecting the iron removal effect, it is necessary to replace some of the filter material. Therefore, during our construction process, we should pay attention to whether there is "rust sand". If there is, we must distinguish the size of the "rust sand" clearly. If it is a small specification, it can continue to be used, which can reduce our industrial costs. If it is a large specification, it should be replaced to avoid affecting the filtered water quality.
Usage effect
In the process of water softening, firstly, due to the limited treatment time of manganese sand softened water, and secondly, due to the presence of iron elemental, ferric oxide, ferrous oxide and other iron oxides mixed in the water, the iron and manganese removal effect of manganese sand is greatly reduced. Therefore, in order to increase the iron and manganese removal effect of manganese sand, an aeration treatment process should be added before the manganese sand treatment process to achieve the best effect of iron and manganese removal! Different ratios of anaerobic aerobic facultative biological treatment processes can be selected according to different combinations of water quality. This process not only has excellent nitrogen and phosphorus removal effects, but also can decompose high molecular weight organic matter into low molecular weight organic matter that is easy to biodegrade by aerobic organisms. The important thing is to be able to oxidize elemental iron, elemental manganese, ferrous oxide, and low valent manganese oxide into high valent iron oxides! In this way, the iron and manganese removal pressure of manganese sand is reduced, and the overall treatment effect is good.
