The sealing function of the STR100NK shaft seal is achieved by a threaded structure, commonly known as a spiral seal or a viscous seal. This structure can be clearly presented by a shaft surface thread measuring instrument, where the number of diffraction fringes is an indicator of thread depth, and the distance between the diffraction fringes reflects the size of the pitch. The Matesy STT R100 NK is a thread structure measuring instrument equipped with a digital camera, which can be used to detect and record the sealing performance of the surface structure of shaft components. The requirements for sealing surfaces vary depending on the application, and it is not possible to specify universally effective and clear surface parameters for them. However, the sealing performance of shaft components is affected by surface roughness and waviness. The Matesy STT R100 NK can visualize the functional overlap of roughness and waviness within a 2mm x 2mm illuminated surface area. Roughness can lead to characteristic scattered light distribution, while ripples can produce stripe patterns in test images. The STT R100 NK can be connected to a digital camera to capture and store characteristic scattered light patterns. By installing a miniature 4/3 lens using a standard mount, STT can be connected to every standard digital camera with an MFT adapter. Inspection can be performed in real-time image mode through the camera's LCD display screen. The recorded images can be transferred to a computer via USB connection. The provided software can include images in the checklist. The scattered light reference image can be used as a reference sample for quality inspection and production conditions using the sealing surface samples specified by the application (leak proof, leak proof, extreme cases).
