Product competitive advantage

1Technical advantages: Pulse radar and continuous laser radar

LEOSPHEREThe decision to develop pulse heterodyne detection instead of continuous wave heterodyne detection is partly due to the fact that pulse systems can perform faster profile measurements at more altitude levels, and partly due to clear measurement distance gates.

LEOSPHEREIt is believed that pulse lidar is more suitable as a wind energy measurement tool than continuous wave lidar for the following reasons:

ØConstant spatial resolution and constant accuracy

The most important advantage of a pulsed laser radar system is that the vertical probe length remains constant at all heights. For example,WINDCUBEv2at40m-200mThere is a constant spatial resolution. On the contrary, the vertical probe length of continuous wave radar increases with the square of height.

Therefore, pulse laser radar systems are clearly more suitable for high-altitude measurements than continuous laser radar systems.

ØWINDCUBEv2Pulse laser radar has good time resolution

For example, inWINDCUBEv2Simultaneously provided at sea within one second12Measurement of wind profile at a height level. On the contrary, continuous wave radar measures one altitude per second.

ØWINDCUBEv2Compared to continuous wave lidar systems, pulse lidar systems are not affected by the backscattering of clouds.

due toWINDCUBEv2Not affected by cloud reflection, with better usability

ØWINDCUBEv2The hardware part of the pulse laser radar does not have internal moving parts

WINDCUBEV2 has no internal moving parts, therefore it has higher reliability and lower risk of rupture. On the contrary, continuous wave radar has moving parts because it requires different focusing for different heights.
